So what is Dowsing?

The word dowsing originates from the now obsolete word 'douse' which means to strike. The term was coined from people using this method to 'strike' mineral deposits.

Dowsing is also commonly known as divining. This term came from the word 'Divination', the dictionary definition of which is 'The art or gift of prophecy (or the pretence of prophecy) by supernatural means'.

History of Dowsing

There is written testament from Germany of miners dowsing for metals in the 16th century.

Marco Polo brought back detailed information on dowsing from the Orient. Herodotus writes of its use by the Persians, Scythians, and Medes. There are records of its use by the Etruscans, Hindus, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans.

Even the bible references dowsing. It appears Moses made frequent use of the technique as mentioned in the Old Testament.

Records of dowsing have been found throughout history

Right up to modern times dowsers have predominantly used a green piece of twig or branch from a tree, or a weight on the end of a string as a dowsing tool.
